What is Vesak Kalapaya?

The Virtual Vesak Kalapaya is Sri Lanka's premier digital celebration of Vesak — the holiest day in the Theravāda Buddhist calendar. Each year, we bring together devotees, scholars, artists, and communities from across the globe for three transformative days of dhamma, culture, and light.

From virtual dansäl halls to live dhamma discourses, digital thorana displays to meditative retreats — this is a Vesak experience reimagined for the modern world, yet rooted in timeless tradition.

Join tens of thousands who have already registered to light a virtual Vesak lantern together, wherever they are on this earth.

What to Experience

Dansäl Halls

Virtual free-offering halls from monasteries across Sri Lanka, Japan, Thailand, and Myanmar — live food offerings and blessings streamed in real time.

Virtual Thorana

An immersive 3D thorana display narrating Jātaka stories, illuminated with thousands of LED-style panels — viewable in your browser or VR headset.

Cultural Programme

Bakthi gee performances, traditional Kandyan drum circles, and a youth arts showcase celebrating Buddhist heritage in contemporary forms.

Lantern Lighting

Release a personalised virtual Vesak lantern into our shared sky at moonrise — dedicated to a loved one or offering merit to all sentient beings.
